Brian Blume’s arrangement of Coventry Carol, a traditional English carol based on a biblical play entitled The Pageant of the Shearman and Tailors, is a delicate and haunting treatment of its original. Scored for glockenspiel, vibraphone, and 4 different marimba parts, Mr. Blume does a fantastic job of creating differing textures throughout. He does this by layering in different voices at different times and by using the lowest marimba like a string bass, playing rhythmic figures while the other marimba parts are rolling. Coventry Carol was premiered by the Southeastern University Percussion Ensemble in December 2017. This piece comes with a full, bound score and includes a CD-ROM containing an audio recording and all individual parts available for printing.
